Land Use Planning, Permitting and Code Compliance
Community Development (CD) Planning Staff prepares, implements, updates, and administers land use plans and development regulations, including the Tribal Comprehensive Plan (Ordinance No. 78) and Zoning Code Plan and Zoning Code (Ordinance No. 80). Planning is responsible for processing permits and land use applications, including building and grading permits, subdivisions, rezones, variances, lot line adjustments, and conditional use permits and ensuring compliance with the Zoning and Building Codes and permit conditions, and providing staff support to the Tulalip Planning Commission.
Planning assists in protecting and preserving a maximum amount of natural resources and environmental and culturally important areas of the Tulalip Reservation for the present and future use and enjoyment of Tribal members; seeks to maintain a land base for residential development to provide potential home sites for tribal members; monitors various tribal growth trends; provide areas for commercial development, governmental functions, public facilities, and protection of agricultural lands, and; ensures new construction meets minimum safety standards. To perform these functions, Planning collaborates with other Tribal departments on shoreline, environmental and natural resource lands planning issues affecting the Reservation. We also monitor and respond to development proposals and proposed plans and regulations affecting the Reservation that are initiated under the jurisdiction of state, local and federal agencies.
