19.00.00 – TULALIP TRIBAL MEMBER RECRUITMENT

19.00.01 – RESERVE PROGRAM

The purpose of the Tulalip Tribal Police Services Reserve Program is to provide trained volunteer tribal members to assist the police services in the accomplishment of its mission. The program also provides training and experience in many areas of the criminal justice system to those tribal members who have a desire to gain this Knowledge and experience. The Reserve Program is not to be used to limit the size of the regular staff, but to give tribal members the opportunity to serve and become full time members of the service.

19.00.02 – RESERVE DEFINITION

Reserve members are volunteers to the Tulalip Police Services who are properly trained and certified, and who have been given a limited or full commission.

19.00.02 – ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

A person desiring to become a reserve member of the department shall submit a completed Tulalip Police Services employment application.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM STANDARD:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED
  • United States Citizen-Tribal member
  • Valid Washington State driver license
  • Ability to read and write the English language
  • Pass written, oral, and background tests
  • Pass physical agility tests
  • Mental fitness evaluation
  • Membership in the reserve program is solely at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

19.00.03 – APPOINTMENT PROCESS

  1. Must meet the minimum entry requirements
  2. Written Test – A written test established by the service, and approved by the Chief of Police, shall be administered. The written test shall be a general knowledge test to determine the applicants mental ability and aptitude. Applicants must pass the written test with a score of 70% or greater to advance in the appointment process.
  3. Oral Test – An Oral Board Interview will be administered by the Tulalip Police Services. The Oral Board shall consist of three members. One member shall be a regular full-time patrol officer from the service and the third shall be a member of the Personal Department appointed to the oral board.
  4. Physical Test – A physical test shall be administered by the department. Applicants must pass the physical standards as set forth by the W.S.C.J.T.C. by completion of the reserve academy.
  5. Background – An in-depth background investigation shall be conducted by an assigned member of the tribal police services.
  6. Final appointment will be based on an entry interview with the Chief of Police

19.00.04 – PERSON INELIGIBLE FOR RESERVE STATUS

All elected officials of the Tulalip Tribal Board of Directors or commissioned members of any law enforcement agency are ineligible for Reserve Membership with the Tulalip
