Meet the Staff

SESS

beda?chelh's Starting Early Starting Smart (SESS) program has provided traditional storytelling, gymnastics instruction and other services to preschoolers at the Tulalip Montessori and the Tulalip ECEAP for the past two years. beda?chelh has received continuation funding from the Casey Family Foundation to take the services to the Suquamish and Skokomish preschools as well as Tulalip. Educators from all three tribal sites are meeting with the SESS preschool liaison to develop a distinctly coastal Salish preschool curriculum aimed at enhancing cultural awareness andpride, promoting reading readiness and reducing behaviora l health problems in preschool children.

Art Therapy

Three new art therapy groups for elementary and middle school students have been added to beda?chelh's children's mental health program. The new groups help to serve kids who like to express themselves artistically. These groups were formed as an outgrowth of the summer program that beda?chelh held in partnership with the Tulalip Montessori and Cultural Resources. Many children in the summer program were extremely artistic and became quite involved in their art projects, so we extended this option for them to enjoy during the school year.

STOP & Child Advocacy Program

beda?chelh has a Child Advocacy Center and STOP Violence Against Indian Women program. The STOP program offers individual and group counseling for victims of violence and provides emergency shelter for families who are escaping violence. beda?chelh works collaboratively with both State and Tribal agencies.
